Exhibtion Goda Palekaitė

From 21 September to 16 December, Goda Palekaitė will occupy the Beursschouwburg exhibition space as a prelude to a novel in the making.

Goda Palekaitė is a Lithuanian artist living in Brussels. She works at the intersection of contemporary art, performance, artistic research, literature, and anthropology. Her practice revolves around the politics of historical narratives, the agency of dreams and imagination, and the conditions of creativity.

Compounding commonly used terms such as ‘eye crust’ or ‘sleep dust’, the title alludes to the bodily relics of a dream. The exhibition pictures a disjointed temporality, its protagonists hailing from different times, places and cultural imaginaries. Through fiction, the artist relates to characters from the past.  Their biographies and the historiographical rumors surrounding them constitute the work’s raw matter, that Goda translates into performance, writing, film, installation, sound and scenography.

Goda had solo shows at Västerås Art Museum, Kunsthal Gent / Editorial Vilnius , Centre Tour à Plomb in Brussels, Konstepidemin in Gothenburg , and RawArt Gallery in Tel Aviv. Lately, her performances and installations have been presented at Whitechapel Gallery in London, BOZAR Brussels, Tranzit Bratislava, Swamp pavilion in The Biennale Architettura 2018 in Venice, Georg Kargl gallery in Vienna, Vilnius Contemporary Art Center, among others. Goda holds a BFA in fine arts (Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts), MA in social and cultural anthropology (University of Vienna), Post-Master in artistic research (A.pass, Brussels) and currently is a Ph.D. candidate at Hasselt University and PXL-MAD School of Arts.

About Beursschouwburg

Beursschouwburg is a multidisciplinary center for arts and reflection, an open meeting place strongly anchored in Brussels’ reality. Here we embrace the local, the global and the glocal.

Beursschouwburg functions as a platform to present and develop a wide array of art practices and research, as a  support and experimentation network for artists, collectives and thinkers; a hub that questions normativity and welcomes new narratives.

Together with collaborators, we co-create programs that ignite fruitful encounters between different audiences, forms and genres, between art and everyday life, between the emerging and the established, between urgency and joy.
