Lisa Spilliaert - Growth Record
30 Sept. - 22 Dec., We. - Fr., 12:00 - 18:00, Sa., 12:00 - 19:00
Vernissage Friday 29 September, 19:00

Born to a Japanese mother and a Belgian father, Lisa Spilliaert moved from Tokio to Bruges all by herself when she was 17. Her videos show life and work flowing together, subtly translating her personal story to a universal one. In the long-term project “Growth Record” Spilliaert steadfastedly documents the growth of a baby towards adulthood through photography and video, addressing the process of aging, motherhood, and the ritualistic relationship between an artist and her model.

Mural Beurscafé

Céline Butaye (BE) - Sounds Like Broken
30 Sept. - 22 Dec., during opening hours of Beurscafé
Vernissage Friday 29 September, 19:00

A couple of years ago we soundproofed the Beurscafé, which resulted in the installation of a pristine white wall at the back of our bar. Since then, every six months, we’ve asked artists such as Julien Meert, Nel Aerts, Atelier Pica Pica, Michael Vandenabeele, etc. to take over the wall as their personal canvas. This fall, Céline Butaye will stretch the material boundaries of the wall and propose a soundinstallation in dialogue with the mural.

About Beursschouwburg

Beursschouwburg is a multidisciplinary center for arts and reflection, an open meeting place strongly anchored in Brussels’ reality. Here we embrace the local, the global and the glocal.

Beursschouwburg functions as a platform to present and develop a wide array of art practices and research, as a  support and experimentation network for artists, collectives and thinkers; a hub that questions normativity and welcomes new narratives.

Together with collaborators, we co-create programs that ignite fruitful encounters between different audiences, forms and genres, between art and everyday life, between the emerging and the established, between urgency and joy.
